Vision
MFMC supports communication projects and campaigns that engage citizens, policy makers and businesses to accelerate the structural changes needed to reach a low carbon society.
We Support
Climate change is increasingly being felt around the planet, wreaking havoc with livelihoods, infrastructure, and ecosystems. Despite this, we have yet to see political action that matches the magnitude of the problem. A pressing task for climate change communication is therefore to mobilise support for the scale of necessary changes and foster a better understanding of the available solutions that can create structural change at the scale and speed needed. MFMC will prioritise projects that raise to this challenge and especially looks for innovative approaches that can be difficult to fund elsewhere.
Essential to the Foundation’s approach is that projects must have a strategic goal aimed at specific climate measures, political decisions or other important opportunities or obstacles for effective climate action. Projects should be based on an analysis of the context in the country or region in which the project is to be carried out, and - based on this analysis - a justification for why exactly this is a strategically important field to focus on. The stronger the climate movement is in a country or in a region, the greater the demands we place on strategic focus. We believe that the time has passed for campaigns that seek to create general awareness in the population around the fact that climate change is caused by human activity, that it is a very serious threat to humanity, and that action is urgent. Building solutions and implementing change is the task at hand in the decade to come.
In light of this strategic focus, the Board will review all applications against the following questions:
- Describe the systemic change you are seeking to create
- Why are you the right group or organisation to achieve this change?
- Why is your project needed at this exact moment?
The Minor Foundation supports European-based organisations and communication projects that:
Lead to changes in policies or practises in public or private institutions in line with pathways for 1,5C
Increase knowledge and implementation of needed policies and technologies
Reduce new build out or use of fossil fuels
Increase the uptake and use of carbon-free solutions
Create positive mobilisation for the actions and policies needed to keep global warming within the pathway of 1,5C
Increase the number of voices and narratives in climate advocacy
We do not support
Organisations or projects with a commercial purpose
Organisations that are registered outside Europe
Research-projects
Climate adaptation projects
General climate information campaigns or projects
Projects with a purely local focus or community-level projects
The foundation does not support projects directed towards individual behaviour change unless this is part of a clear strategy for larger, structural, political change
We only support applications from organisations, not individuals
The foundation may support costs for personnel and operations as part of a wider project application, but not in and of itself
Support schemes
The Minor foundation has a two-stage application process where organisations are welcome to pitch their ideas. The board invites those with the best ideas to submit full application.
The Minor foundation supports projects ranging from €20,000 to €200,000, but will consider applications up to €1,000,000.
The Minor foundation has a separate support scheme for small grants up to €10,000. Applications for these grants are one-stage and have simplified reporting procedures.
