Lamu against coal

Aiming to shift the focus of investors from coal to renewable energy

Amount granted € 10 000
Project period 2020–ongoing
Tanzania, Africa

This project seeks to continue changing the narrative and shift the focus of national and international investors in coal energy to instead invest in better renewable energy.

Despite all efforts, the government still intends to construct the coal plant, this is evident through the appeal which was lodged against the decision to stop the construction of the plant coupled with the fact that the status of the plant reads: still in development.

This is an opportune moment to continue our efforts without giving up hope and to push forward our agenda to create more awareness on coal and its effects showing how poor governance and dirty energy investment can only render us more susceptible to destituteness and inability to cope with future health crises like this pandemic.

Moving forward, any decisions concerning energy investment must keep in mind the protection of our environment and prevention of future health and natural disasters which are triggered by climate change and environmental degradation.
