Kampala Clean Air Drive

Wanyama Autosafety Initiatives

An innovative approach to decarbonise road transport in Kampala, Uganda

Amount granted € 9 783
Project period 2022–2022
Uganda

Kampala is among the most highly polluted cities in Africa, with air pollution levels over six times higher than the World Health Organization’s air quality guidelines. Besides hindering Africa’s efforts to decarbonize transport, it contributes to over 31,000 deaths in Uganda especially among infants in urban poor communities. The project takes a bottoms-up approach to spearhead research, improve public engagement and build capacity for mitigation as well as influence large policy reforms around Uganda’s transportation – towards effective decarbonisation.
